How to create a restore CD?

My friend recently purchased an acer laptop, and he asked me how to create a back up copy of windows or create a restore cd, because his laptop didn't come with one? what is the easiest way to go about doing this?

He should have the required Restore files on a partition of the laptop's HDD. That seems to be the way they do it now. Sometimes that partition is hidden. What does the manual say for Restoration?
