HOW-TO: CPU Cooler Clearance (ex Intel Core i7 2600k)
1. Measure from your Motherboard tray to the side panel or fan. (This is often called the CPU clearance by case manufacturers and is typically between 150-250mm)
2. Measure from your Motherboard tray to the back side of the motherboard (aka Motherboard Offset, typically between 0-15mm. See Image Below)
3. As you can see, the motherboard/socket/cpu thickness is typically about 10mm. (See your CPU manufacturers Product Diagrams, Intel link Below)
4. Do the Math for your system: #1 - #2 - #3 = True CPU Clearance
I hope this will keep you from buying the wrong cooler!
