How to "correct" Athlon penciling?

I haven't penciled the L1s on my Athlon 800 yet for fear that my big-ass fingers will screw up the job.
If I were to mess up, using a standard graphite pencil, what would I need to do to clean away the graphite in order to start over again?

I'm afraid to use an eraser for fear that it might rub away something.
Is my fear unfounded?

If you use an eraser(normal use dont push harder than you normally wood) it should be fine. cpu's are alot tougher than you might think.

Any normal eraser won't do much damage (if any at all), especially if its nice and soft. The only traces that may be left would be very small scratches, since there is some abrasive qualities to most erasers. However, none of this compares to lapping a processor, which people often do with sandpaper.

Don't worry, you can't break a CPU with a soft piece of rubber unless you tried really really hard.
