How to copy streaming audio?

Sorry, I'm a relatively old fart who has never burned anything. I want to start recording some streaming audio (Realplayer surestream) stuff, and wondered if there was some way to do it digitally, rather than route it to my stereo and then to a CD burner (I would rather skip the analog step).

There are programs that can record any sound produced by your sound card. One such program that I have used before is called Total Recorder, which seems to work pretty well.

Generally, there are some ways to do it, but they tend to be pretty ugly, and that's not by accident. Realmedia doesn't want you able to record the streaming audio or video they process, since <gasp> you might be infringing on someone's copyrights.

eh yea, just do it the easiest way u can, real media is low quality anyhow. conversion not gonna make much of a dif a that level.. streaming stuff is a pain to copy, esp real media. better off sticking with mp3s
