How to copy an entire partition under Win2000

I currently am running Win2000 Pro and my primary fixed disk is on the IDE chain. I have everything just the way that I want it.

I recently purchased a SCSI HD and I want to use this drive as my main drive, but I DO NOT want to reinstall the OS.

My question is:

How do I copy the entire partition over from the IDE drive to the SCSI drive? After this, I plan on removing the IDE drive and using it somewhere else.

I have Partition Magic 5.0, but that does not support Win2000.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Ghost or Powerquest's Drive Copy will work. As for free options, I don't think there are any. PM 5.01 "supports" win2k. If you bought 5 it's a free upgrade.

Boot from floppy then. :D

At least this works for Norton Ghost which works with NTFS.

However w2k might be unable to start after a direct migration. You should install the SCSI driver before doing a HDD cloning.

A drive copy should work fine with win2k. You may have to make minor changes to the boot.ini, but nothing too serious. The only problem you might run into, is if you still have IDE drives in the system. Make sure you remove all the IDE hard drives in the system.

I upgraded from IDE to SCSI boot drive. Used Ghost to restore image of boot partition from IDE to SCSI, but was not able to make it work. Programs that were originally installed to C: drive, now found themsleves on a diff letter drive (didn't wanna ditch my IDE drives). Primary part on your primary master will keep letter C:. Primary part on SCSI will get letter only after all IDE primary parts.

Norton WinDoctor helped fix a lot of stuff, but there were still a few prgms that just got confused by the letter change - caused enuf aggravation that I said 'screw it', reformatted & re-installed everything. Which naturally worked beautifully.

I have lots of prgms/apps, too ., multiple OS'es. Takes me a week to get everything back up. If u get it to work (keeping ur IDE drives), pls lemme know the secrets. :)
