How to cool a Q9450?

Any preference on which is better? Or a completely different one?

Also, I'd probably need a new heatsink, so any recommendations there?

Myself, I will be using a ACfreezer 7 pro for my Go Q6600, but will only be going for 3.2Ghz. Now The Q9450 will have lower thermal output so should be better with the AC freezer 7, however , there are any number here who will tell you to put a huge tower on......

go with the xigmatek. no point in trying to save a mere $10 at the possible sacrifice of good temps and stability.

I'd rather the ACF7pro with push pins than the other huge tower.....I don't really think there is much in it to be honest, you may get 100Mhz more, maybe not depending on how good the cooling for the interior of the case is?

I just happen to think, the bigger the tower the easier it is to become loose!, get in the way or block other objects etc...

the Xigmatek will keep the temperature lower, which is good for the stability and longevity of the chip, and fits just fine without blocking anything. it's also one of the best air cooling solutions for maybe $12 more than the AC Freezer.
Whenever you can "upgrade" to the best for a mere $12, I'd say go for it.

120mm fans around heatpipe coolers is not fine at all IMO.....and you are talking about 2-4 degrees at best!.....anyway, whatever....

2-4 degrees? go look up some benchmarks.
AC Freezer is about the same as the Coolermaster Hyper TX2 in size and design. The Xigmatek is 8 degrees better at 85W and 13 degrees better at 150W.

Umm, where do you qualify the ACF7pro as the same as TX2?....According to Anand, @ stock speeds @ load, the ACF7pro beats a TRUE..details
@ 3.83 OC with a dual core, the ACF7pro had the lowest temp of 37c shown here

The OP did say non extreme, IMHO, the ACF7pro is better because it is not as big. I have no doubt that @ extreme clocks the Xigmatek is the better cooler, but not everyone runs their chip at the extreme.....least not if they want it to last.

yea... i remember that article and i also remember discussing it with my friends as we all thought it to be unusual. don't get me wrong as i've used AC heatsinks since 2004 and like them but there's no way that the AC Freezer should be beating a TRUE. I'm sure there are plenty of other reviews out there that would go against that anandtech article.

Interestingly enough, frostytech doesnt have a review of the ACF7Pro...a bumper really, as I have ordered 1 to go with my G0 Q6600....I am expecting better than most results though as the ACF7P will fit inside the TJ06 wind tunnel, so will 1) be isolated from the rest of the system and 2) have cool air blown directly onto the HSF anyway. Hoping to post some results in a week...

Ok, let's get something straight here. The AF7P is a good cooler, I have a TX2 and they trade blows because it's the same design. However, the Xigmatek has been shown to beat almost every single cooler out there because it is A) motherboard-snapping big and B) uses heatpipe direct touch. Quad-Core do put out a lot of heat, I would go with the Xigmatek, and with a bolt-thru kit to keep off the aforementioned motherboard snapping.

Frostytech's testing is also rather suspicious, they use different fans a lot.

Blue, the TX2 may look the same as the ACF7P, but performance wise, it is nothing near it. Now we are straight.
