Rub olive oil on both sides of the steak.
Put a dry pan on a burner on high heat.
When the pan is really hot, drop in the steak for 30 seconds, then flip it for 30 seconds on the other side.
Then, put the pan and steak into a oven that has been pre-heated to 500F.
After 2 mins, flip the steak, and do another 2 mins.

You may need more or less time depending upon the fat content, thickness of the steak, and how well done you like your meat.

well this is good that you posting the proper procedure for cooking a steak , but don't you think a recommended seasoning would help
or a homemade seasoning recipe. For those who want a nice steak seasoning there is one called "montreal steak seasoning" that is made by mcormick and a couple other companies. It is very good when you rub it on the steak after coating it with olive oil and mark the steak on your grill or in a sautee pan. then place in a 500 degree oven to finish off to desired temperature.

mmmm.... my mommy taught me how to cook steak. she used to own a grill restaurant. broiling can be pretty good but a charcoal fire can't be beat!!! What matters the most is the quality of the meat. Not the cut, the quality!

shaddow: real cooks don't use premade seasonings! if you want a good steak you need to kill it and season it yourself! dont' forget to hand feed it!;)
