When your young and single, having a big 8 person hot tub is great, (aah, the memories).
Then you get married, the novelty wears off, you no longer use it that much, BUT, your kids do, so its ok. Then the kids move out, and your stuck with a huge money pit in your patio, yes Virginia they cost money to maintain, even if you don't use them.
<------ been there done that.

That story adds up to many years of fine usage though. I'd say it was worth it.

15 years of entertaining, hosting, looking after, and cleaning up after all the neighborhoods kids,---- not worth it.

2 years Entertaining hot girls after the local bar closed,----- priceless

A few nights under the stars with the wife,---- sure, BUT, not a HUGE $10.000 hot tub.

<-------- looking at OP, ;)

Good job on choosing a more reasonable model.

As for your SO, it's likely that she didn't want a huge, permanent reminder of how foolish you were with your money installed in her bathroom.

Hehe ya. I was envisioning something along the lines of those fine $2000 tubs they sell at Home Depot.

BTW-Our neighbor bought a huge spa a number of years ago and put it in his backyard. They used it a few times a month for the first 6 months or so but that number soon dropped down to a couple times a year and now I rarely see the cover open unless he's cleaning it...

Just a little food for thought.

Maybe they realized you watch them every time they get in it .......

They put the thing in the corner of their yard right near our fence so everytime they're in it I can see that the cover is up from our kitchen. I almost never see that cover up either. :p

Believe me, you wouldn't want to see my neighbors in a hot tub...and neither do I.

I understand there are all kinds of people in this world, but a woman to refuse a nice bath tub? That's a new one.

according to her the $1,500 one is nice, I figured a high end tub would be an EASY sell to a woman, boy was I wrong. Maybe $9k is a bit extreme, I really don't make that great of money lol. But I see 8 jets, a built in heater, Chromatharapy, which I had to look it up. It's lights that change color under water, I guess to relax you. I was like "OMG I need this tub!" Her logic is a person shouldn't spend more on something like a tub than they make in a month, I think there's some real valid logic there lol. I usually don't get sucked in by bullshit worded features, but my mind is telling me I can't live without this Chromatherapy. If it was just listed as lights for the feature I'd be like "MEH!" but now I gotta experience it.

to biggestuff, that is absolutely true but we will be living together and there has to be some compromise. On little things I've been made to feel like an asshat in the past because I did something my GF didn't (not exactly this one) I somehow imagine if I basically ignore her and get the tub she will do that guilt thing females do, and then I wouldn't be able to enjoy the Chromatherapy. Females have an evil ability to make a man feel bad when they didn't even do anything. bout the Washlet, I dunno I am intrigued by a user tempature/direction controllable jet of water to wash my ass after a #2, oh and the heated seat + built in Automatic air deodorizer sound really cool. Oh and the seat automatically lifts up when you approach it and goes down when you stand up. I guess frivolous spending on something way more cool than useful or needed haha.

to Zaitsev not nutts, but stupid works for me. I mean they have an $11,500 model, so it's not like I chose the absolute most expensive one. And $9g is retail I bet I could find it for $8,000 easy lol.

You are buying a bathtub that lights up like a Christmas tree and swirls water around for nearly the cost of a new car. Sounds reasonable to me.

Op, let me give you the secret to women, which has not yet been pointed out. And is also the reason you most likiely wont get your tub.

Now this is some profound shit( if very simple and basic), and most women will honestly agree (At least the over 21 I wanna party ones).

A woman wants to know her needs are provided for. She wants security. She wants to know at the end of the day she can go home, turn up the AC because its hot out, take a warm bath to relax and cook a hot meal on a stove. She wants to know this will always be there for her, she doesnt want to worry if something is going to get shut off or if theres a bill you cant afford. She wants the security of stability. Now another fact is a woman will put up with quite a lot for that as well. In fact, some women you can treat like shit and they will stay with you, if not loyal to you. They may be screwin the hot stud at 7-11 but their gonna come back home to Daddy Warbucks every night.

Now by you wanting to spend 9,000 on a tub your telling your woman you are not yet mature enough and responsible enough to effectively plan for her security. Shes going to have doubts your going to be able to be trusted to keep the lights on and the water hot because you are immature with your money. Unless that is a 800k plus house a 9k tub has no place in it.

You now know what women want. Feel free to ask those around you. Ask them whats more important, lovey dovey cuddling every night or the security of a roof over their head and a warm bath. Now that doesnt mean you can ignore her and beat her and she will stay, but you dont have to be Prince Charming every day, just get your ass up go to work and provide for her. Why do you think a rich old man can net a hot vixen? Because he provides for her.....

Now, you want to really woo her?

Sit down, here comes the magic.

Talk to your girl. Tell her (Assuming this is true, hopefulyl it is) you have thought about the tub and realize its over the top and unreasonable (Dont say maybe, because it fucking is). Tell her that your way of relaxing is a hot bath. Maybe you overdid it at first, but you DO want a nice tub. So ask her if it would be reasonable if you put 5k in a savings account for a rainy day and spent 4k on a tub. Trust me, 4k is still gonna snag you a hell of a tub. Like anything theres a point of diminishing returns. A 1.5k tub has a lot over a $500 tub, but a 5k tub doesnt have as much over a 1.5k tub.

So use the fact that your girl wants security to leverage what you want. In time you will realize as long as the bills are paid on time and in full and theres money in the bank for a rainy day you will have quite a bit of play in what you buy. When bills become past due or things of that nature happen, you can bet your ass you wont be getting a soda without the Minister of Finance being all up in your shit.

So, rather then prove her point of you being incapable of handling the financial responsibility of a relationship and a house, show her you can step up and be a man and provide for his woman.

My suggestion is to plan a get together when it gets warm at a friends house that has a hot tub. Maybe when her back is sore and have them suggest she use it. Maybe she will change her mind. Have to work in the Medical angle or something like that. I dont know tell her it will liven up her sex life, or how great it would be in the middle of the winter.

It's your money and your home get what you will.

It's funny half the people here are flipping you crap about the cost of a tub. When in a 10 year period most these people buy $9000 worth of computers and new parts. And I bet they would be throwing and tantrum and supporting each other if it was yet another new computer they wanted

Filled with fail.

When you buy a house WITH SOMEONE ELSE, they they should have a say in how you spend your money.

How many times have we seen threads about people pissed off that their roommate blew all their money on boooze or quit their job and doesnt do anything?

This is NO DIFFERENT.

It only costs me around $1200 every 3, or 4 years to have a computer thats up to date, and, if you haven't noticed, computers are darn near a nessessity nowdays for, work, organization, leisure, household finances, pictures, and communication, and by far more useful than a 50" tv. Also, some, maybe not half of us here, have raised the kids, payed down, or off the mortage, and set up our retirement. The OP ain't even on first base. I, for one, could afford to buy a $4000 computer, or a $9000 hot tub, but do I?--- NO, cuz it's a waste of money, and a bad idea!!!!

However, that new bass boat is a good one.
