I have some xvid files that i would like to burn onto a dvd disc that is playable by a standard dvd player. Can anyone recommend me a good guide/program?

also, how long would a 1600 mb xvid file take to convert?

Edit: 5-21-07 Originally I read your post to mean a computer dvd player, but now I see you probably meant a stand alone player. The program below has a setting for DVD output, but I haven't tried it yet for DVD, so I don't know if it works.

Here's one I used to convert xvid encoded .avi to .mpg for the same reason. It only took 5 minutes for a 30 minute video conversion. http://ivcsoft.free.fr/ 18MB

The site is in french and english so scroll down until you see the download at the bottom of the page. It's also at snapfiles for some screenshots and such.

This converts between Mpeg (vcd/svcd/dvd compliant), DV, Quicktime, Windows Media, Xvid, H264, 3GP, PSP, iPod, Flash video (FLV, Swf) got from Youtube, DailyMotion, Google Video etc. If it all works as good as the conversion I did this will be the Ifranview of video.

Nero recognizes DIVX files, and asks if I wish to convert them to another DVD format for compatibility. I haven't checked to see what it was doing, but it appears to convert to MPG.

But, the quality drops. I picked up a DVD player (standalone) that was DIVX capable (needed a new one anyway...)

I agree, I used to mess with converting the files BUT NO MORE!!! I just upgrade to the latest dvp5982 (1080P upconversion, HDMI, usb port which allows you to play divx/xvid off of as well, ...)
