how to convert real media video to .GIF? (for free?)

my digital camera only takes movies as real media files.

is there a free program to convert these into animated .GIF s?

irfanview won't do it I don't think. also I'll take recommendations for payware

the latest real media codecs are not 1/2 bad Gurck...go look at a place like doom9 and you'll notice that people don't scream for the head of real. their "player" for windows is bloated for sure, but the codec is good.

ok, I can extract the images as still frames...

anybody know of a free .GIF maker where i can put them back together? there must be one out there

my bad, it's a .MOV file, quicktime, not real media. for some reason it just opened with realplayer.

i've heard that the quicktime codec is pretty lame and outdated...too bulky

anybody know of a preferably free program to convert .MOV to .GIF?

Gifs are an image format, not movie format, you can't convert

Tmpgeng with .mov plug in, will convert to .mpeg.
