Nowaday, I mostly watch recorded TV programs on my computer. I record those programs using DIVX Pro format (I use showshifter with ATI TV Wonder VE card). I am thinking to purchase a PocketPC to let me watch those pre recorder show when I am doing my cardio exercise. (consider when you run or ride on the bike for 60 to 90 minutes..... Less pain, more productive--"news+Entertainment+Health") However, I can't find much information/details regarding how to convert from normal DIVX format to the one for PocketPC format. Can anyone point to the website or details on this topic? Thanks alot and excuse for my broken English.

I don't think a pocketpc has the processing power to run divx, because remember its a compressed file so its in a way like unzipping on the fly. You'll need a really fast one with a good amount of RAM and then like atleast a 256mb stick for videos. Oh yeah, don't try biking and watching a show like that, trust me, hehe

A suggestion: record TV programs at the desired resolution of your PocketPC device, but in whatever version of MPEG that your PocketPC is able to play. Get plenty of storage space (maybe 3 120GB drives in RAID 5? :p), and a wireless network (wireless would be necessary for the PDA, too). Then you won't need huge memory modules for the PDA, as well as making the process more convenient (no need to transcode every show).

kimagurealex, I've tried playing Divx on my ipaq w/Pocket PC 2002. It *does* work but scenes with heavy action or motion are just too much for the processor. It isn't really practicle, the Pocket PC can just barely handle it. You might want to try and download "PocketDivx" which is what I use. Also, I've heard that if you encode the videos at smaller fps then the PPC can handle it. But, I can't confirm that, seems logical though. But again, it just isn't practicle.

I run PocketDIVX just fine on my PocketPC at full screen on my iPAQ 1910 using PocketMVP (formally PocketDIVX). There is no reason NOT to be able to playback DIVX at reasonable speeds (18-23FPS) with the proper optimizations.

I encode TV shows like Scrubs and E.R. to either 160x120 and use the Zoom feature in PocketMVP to blow it up to 320x240 (if space is a problem), but most of the time I just encode them at 320x240 at ~ 489kbps with VirtualDub.

Once I've recorded the TV shows using my TV tuner, it only takes about 5-10 minutes to rip them into a suitable DIVX format for my iPAQ 1910.

Get the latest version of PocketMVP here.
