How to control volume level of SPIDF-out?

I have my HTPC hooked to my receiver with a coaxial cable via the motherboard's SPIDF-out.

I control the HTPC with a wireless KB/MS. (Yes, I've loaded the software that came with it 😉) The KB has volume control buttons and when you press them, you see the OSD and the volume bar moves up and down, but the actual volume does NOT go up and down.

I'm assuming that this is b/c the volume control is somehow "mapped" to the analog outputs and not the digital?

Is there a fix for this? It would be cool to be able to change songs and control the volume, both w/the KB. 🙂

SPDif is a fixed, line-level output. You control the volume at the device which is receiving the SPDif signal.

I had a feeling that was the answer, based on my inability to find ANY controls for the SPIDF output. *sigh*

Thanks, Zepper.

MichaelD-do you have the remote for your receiver? Or are you trying to control EVERYTHING with the wireless kb/mouse?

Hello. Yep, I have the remote for the receiver. I had to configure the digital input. IOW, I had to tell the receiver that for the AUX input, I want to use the digital COAX2 input. The SVideo cable from the HTPC is plugged into the AUX video in.

Basically, I set the INPUT selector on the receiver to AUX and whatever I feed to that input from the HTPC gets displayed and/or played.
