What is the best way to control the RPM of a cooling fan on my rig.

The fan is a 120mm Nidec beta V ta500dc 12 VDC 2.7 Amp. It came out of a compaq server and does it ever fly!!!! It really puts out the breeze but it is painfully loud at full throttle. I tried running it at 5VDC but it wont move. I was thinking about something like a potentiometer or a rehostat but I have no idea on how to spec one out.

I would appreciate any comments on this if you have had any luck taming a wild fan.

Thanks

Just checked Nidec's website, this fan will do 190CFM. It uses 24 watts of power and draws 2000 mA of current.

Hope this helps....

Thanks

You guys are the greatest!!!

I have learned that no question shall go unanswered or at least discussed when you have the mother of all data banks available to you through the use of the internet!!!!!

You can quote me on that....

I will get some pictures of it when it is done.

Thanks again

Before you connect the fan to the 7-volt circuit be sure to check the voltage with a voltmeter/multimeter. Be sure you have + 7 volts before you hook up the fan or it could be damaged. This is a very easy mod - if it doesn't work, it is probably because the fan just takes too much power to start up.
