Hi,

How do you connect a joystick to your PC if your soundcard doesn't have a connection for this? Can you connect it to the mobo somehow or what else can you do. I would like to know this for the P4C800 mobo. Will you need an USB joystick then (if such thing exists) cause I have a normal joystick that I could connect to my Soundblaster in my old PC and I would like to use that joystick. I don't have a Soundblaster anymore, therefore my question. What are my options?

Does the Hercules Radeon 9800 have such a game controller, since this card is very popular. I checked the site but they don't mention it. Which videocards have a game controller to add a normal joystick?

You have three choices with this problem as far as I know:

  1. 1. You buy a sound card, disable the onboard sound and install the sound card.

    2. You buy a game port to USB adapter. Plug adapter into your joystick and then plug adapter into USB port on computer and hope all the functions of your joystick still work.

    3. You buy a new USB joystick.

After looking at the options, the new joystick would be the simplest and best deal. With the new joystick you do not have to open your computer to install hardware. The cost of the sound card or adapter could be applied to the price of the joystick lowering the cost of the joystick. Would you like to spend $25+ dollars on parts or put that $25 toward a new joystick? Joysticks wear out, the pots in the joystick wear out, it maybe a good time to upgrade. USB provides a digital signal, which is a clean and stable signal when compaired to the game port analog input. Do not buy the cheapest joystick you find. You get what you pay for. Happy gaming!

There should be a game port header on the P4C800 just behind the PCI slot between slots 4 and 5. It is a 15 pin header.

If you didn't get a gameport connector, you may have to order one from ASUS. (or from Newegg per nwfsnake's suggestion)

Unless you are trying to keep using an expensive flightstick, I'd just get a USB joystick. They work very well and it is much more convenient to plug them into the front panel USB connector.
