How to connect a ThermalTake 420W PSU to a VNF4 Ultra MB?

Hello all,

I have an Chaintech VNF4 Ultra that has a 24pin ATX connector, and a new Thermaltake 420 Watt PSU. (18 amps on the 12V...)

The PSU has a 20 pin connector, but came with 20 -> 24 pin adapter. Do I need to use the adapter, or should I just keep the native 20 pin connector, leaving 4 pins not connected?

Also, I assume, that in either case, I should still plug in the 4 pin "ATX 12V" connector to the motherboard. Right?

Just fit it in the only way it will fit, I have the exact same board and it can only fit in one way. Yes, you do need the atx 12V connector.

Yes, I realize that it will fit only one way if I use the 20-pin.

But, I am wondering if I need to use the 20-->24 pin adapter that came with the PSU?

I just checked the +12V rail and the amps are kind of low (18A). The 20-->24 pin splits a rail or two and if there's not enough current in the +12V, then it won't get enough power. So I'd just plug the 20 pin into the motherboard and leave pins 21-24 open. Make sure you line everything up right though. Check and double check your manual.

I'm using a 24 pin adapter in my rig because my +12V rail is about 24A.
