I am preparing some tutorial using a screen capturing tool (wink - from www.debugmode.com).
Since lower color depth could create smaller file, I am trying to run Windows XP with 256 colors.

I tried the following methods

1. Compatibility mode - This mode mess with the color settings and the result look very ugly
2. Press F8 during boot process and select "Enable VGA Mode" - that works fine at 640x480 (I did not tried at other resolutions), but require reboot.

BTW, I am using ATI8500LE video card - if that makes a difference

Thanks.

I think problem is with my monitor. It does not show 256 color pallete properly (Dell 1800FP).
I found one more place to select resolution. Display Properties -> Advanced -> Adapter -> List All modes
