How to Configure Mac OS X to Protect your Privacy

Apple’s Mac OS X and later versions are the most secure operating systems of the decade. Apple keeps your OS updated to fight-back the threats to your security and privacy. The base security of Mac OS is continuously being improved over time. The privacy configuration on Mac OS X is related to the location and different types of information that is shared with different applications. Sometimes you may not want to share this information, and you may want to configure them manually. Mac provides a range of privacy settings that you can control.

Here’s how to configure Mac OS X to protect your privacy.

Step 1
Open ‘System Preferences’

Select the ‘Apple’ menu and then select ‘System Preferences’. The ‘System Preferences’ window will appear.

Open ‘Security and Privacy’

From the ‘System Preferences’ window. Launch ‘Security and Privacy’. The ‘Security and Privacy’ menu will appear.

Go to ‘Privacy’ Tab

From the ‘Security and Privacy’ menu, simply click on the ‘Privacy’ tab. The privacy settings will be displayed. Click the ‘Lock’ icon from the bottom-left and then login with valid credentials.

Location Sharing with the Apps

Click the ‘Location Services’ menu from the left pane and then click the checkbox next to each app to enable/disable the location sharing with that app. Your location sharing settings for each app will change according to your selection.

Contacts Sharing with the Apps

Click the ‘Contacts’ menu from the left pane and then click the checkbox next to each app to enable/disable the contacts sharing with that app. Your contact sharing settings for each app will change according to your selection.

Calendar Sharing with the Apps

Click the ‘Calendar’ menu from the left pane and then click the checkbox next to each app to enable/disable the calendar sharing with that app. Your calendar sharing settings for each app will change according to your selection.

Reminder Sharing with the Apps

Click the ‘Reminder’ menu from the left pane and then click the checkbox next to each app to enable/disable the reminder sharing with that app. Your reminder sharing settings for each app will change according to your selection.

Accessibility Sharing with the Apps

Click the ‘Accessibility’ menu from the left pane and then click the checkbox next to each app to enable/disable the accessibility sharing with that app. Your accessibility sharing settings for each app will change according to your selection.

Controlling 'Diagnostic & Usage' Sharing with Apple

Click the ‘Diagnostic & Usage’ menu from the left pane and then configure the diagnostic and location settings for Apple and app developers of the apps that you are using. If you enable the diagnostic and location settings for Apple, then the related data will be sent to Apple at regular intervals for continuous improvement and fixes. Similarly, if you enable the same for app developers, then the data related to the app will be sent to the app developers.
