How TF do you configure an airport extreme?
Hard reset the device.
Power cable in.
Connect via ethernet or wifi.
Settings reveal that the airport should 10.0.1.1 and the client computer is 10.0.1.2.
Browse to 10.0.1.1 ... and NOTHING!

WTF?
I want to throttle Steve Jobs at this point and shove this @W$#% where it irradiates his prostate!

You cant manage it through a web interface. You have to install the Airport Utility which is included on the disk that came with the router or download it from apple's website.

EDIT: Here is the latest windows version of the software: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL840

Thanks.

May I say that THIS IS RETARDED! Even the cheapest router from bestbuy for $15 can be setup via web interface.

It's annoying because it's different, but once you know how to set it up it's not bad. Also note that you have to turn on wireless and connect to it - the name is half of the mac. Sorta odd.

It's very easy to use. Yes it's annoying but I've had to reset routers when I accidentally disabled DHCP and couldn't get back to my router, with the Airport Extreme it will be able to still connect to it which I like. But yes annoying after coming from using web based interfaces.

airport extreme - the old ones not the new ones are amazingly reliable. and cheap $149 for a 500gb refurb. Apple has actually made the software work - unlike everyone else who relies on web interface only. And that is unique in itself.

Sorry but no web interface = piece of crap.
Why should I need to install some sh!tty software to setup a router?
