how to configure 2nd lan card as standby

Hi,
I am about to configure a brand new server. i have 2 1gb ethernet ports and I have one of them to be standby to the primary lan card. how do i do this

Depends on OS and type of server, each vendor has their own utility. I'm assuming you dont have a switch that will do LACP?

I do not know what type of function you expect when using the term Standby.

You establish preference of one to one card if some thing happened to the card the other card will Kick in.

you can team them. then if one fails the other one continues. that way they are active/active rathern than active/passive. intel proset handles this. comes with most server grade intel dual nic cards (nc360t/etc).
