how do one go about completely removing the windows 8 tablets.

on a limited device like a smartphone. it make sense.

on a high end pc. this is the stupidest thing.

If you're talking about getting rid of metro then it makes sense(on a PC) otherwise if its the usual anti MS rant I don't know what to say but "sigh" :hmm:
 
yes - was referring to the "metro gui" on windows 8 for pc.

as for the windows 8 concept. perhap it should be called windows 7.1 instead.
 
If it's an x86 device, then you can use a start menu replacement program like what takeru linked. If it's an ARM device (which is what I normally think of when I hear "Windows tablet") then you're out of luck.

Though to be honest I can't imagine using the Windows desktop on a tablet; for all the flak Metro gets, it was perfectly designed for tablets.

Download and install FREE Classic Shell...after little customizing, you desktop could look something like mine does:
