How to completely remove internet explorer 5

there is no 'absolute' way to remove IE5 or up since it's built into the OS.

Why even bother removing it? If you don't like it don't use it! Delete the shortcuts off your desktop, from your start menu, set your default browser to something else. You'll never hear from IE again (well unless you run Windows Update)

98Lite had the ability to remove IE from the OS but at the cost of functionality, you have to go back to the old Win95 explorer.exe/interface, and it breaks a few programs. IE is built into the OS, just deal with it :D If you don't like it, don't use it. You won't be saving much space in 2k/XP as the 2k/xP versions of IE are actually alot smaller than their Win98 versions. The full install of IE6 for 2k/XP is only 11MB! In contrast the Win9x version is 31MB.

Wait 'til the federal monopoly case against M$ is done, and then maybe they'll have to post a 'fix' to be able to do this. :D

I beleive that when I see it. It most likely will be a 'deactivation' rather than a de-installation.
