the battery's gone, but the calculator isn't working due to all the gunk thats still there. i've tried scraping it away, doesn't do much. i need a quick fix (i.e. no water, no time for it to dry)

What kind of battery?

They sale some stuff at advanced( and other auto parts store) that seems to work very well on acid cell batteries. But coke or anything with a strong acid/base effect will usually do it as well.

A dry cell, I would buy another battery. Before you damage the beeper or whatever you are using this battery in.

wait lemme clear this up. the battery has been gone for a long time. i just got new ones. however, way back when, the battery leaked, and the gunk from 5 years ago is preventing contact w/ the new batteries.
