how to clean install xp pro?

i have tried the clean install from the disc but my old folders and programs still remain. i have never done a format of the hd before so any instructions on a clean install would be a great help. i have a 20 gig hd and have a bunch of junk i just want gone. tia

boot the CD. change your bios settings if you have to so that the CD boots first. it should give you an option for a clean install and prompt you to format.
