I dropped my monitor off my desk, and while I was lucky enough to not kill any pixels, it has a large smear on it.

How can I clean this off?

Sadly it turns out to not just be a smear, it seems like it might be rubber from a power cord behind my desk.
Whatever it is, it doesn't tub off. I can scratch it off with a fingernail but that scares me.

Try a soft eraser, gently of course.

Just work it very slowly and carefully with something soft edged, something like a spudger.

A long time ago, someone turned me on to guitar picks as indispensable tools for my computer toolkit. Hard enough to take apart things like external hard drive enclosures, but soft and flexible enough to never scratch or bend the soft plastics involved. I also use them to scratch off COA stickers and other labels off of laptops and stuff. I've never used one to clean a screen before, but I would recommend it over your fingernail since it has roughly the same properties but won't leave skin oils/residues.
