I need some help with the settings on maxtor acoustic management stuff...
Well, the instructions say do a clean boot with a boot disk, and I'm running WinXP... what do I need to do a clean boot, and where can I get it?

thanks in advance

You should be able to create a boot disk using Add/Remove programs. Check in the menu for either advanced or create a boot disk. Or if that does not work check it out in XP Help and look for how to create a boot floppy disk.

<< Using a system boot diskette clean-boot the system to an A: prompt.

Remove the system boot diskette and insert the diskette containing the AMSET.EXE and CHIPSET.DRV files.[q/]

The instructions say that I need to use DOS, and tells me to get to the A: prompt. Is that even possible if I only have win2k/winxp on my system? i followed those links and all that enables me to do is boot xp without some startup drivers....

stick a floppy into drive>start>my computer>right click on a: drive>format..>check "create MSDOS startup disk>start>leave disk in a: drive>reboot>you are now clean booted to DOS.

RBVS,

>>>stick a floppy into drive>start>my computer>right click on a: drive>format..>check "create MSDOS startup disk>start>leave disk in a: drive>reboot>you are now clean booted to DOS. <<<

Thank you for that information. It came up on another forum that a member said you could NOT create a floppy boot disk in XP. So I copied your above information on "how to" and sent it to them. It was a non Anandtech forum. 🙂
