How to clean ASII from CPU?

Hey all, I recently changed HSF units on my Tbird 1.33 and the ASII from the first application kinda got a bit messy. It didn't fubar the chip, but I am a clean freak. How can I go about cleaning the chip completely of ASII and start fresh again? Or is this a lost cause?

ASII is the silver goop, Arctic Silver II is what it stands for.

I tried rubbing alcohol too, but it just kinda smeared it around. What did you use to rub it with? Toothbrush, soft cloth...?

really tho after u are done u might want to whipe yoru cpu off with some alcohol. Btw dont use bumper sticker remover on the core just around the core

Alright, I can try the bumper sticker remover idea. The ASII I am unable to clean is on the ceramic and around the surface mount components not on the core itself. So, I clean the chip (minus core) with the bumper sticker remover then clean the entire chip with isoproply alcohol. Sounds like a plan.

dish soap liquid works like a charm. alcohol just smudges the ASII around the core and bridges.

So how would you go about using liquid dish soap? Is it ok to get the chip wet with water? I know you would have to make sure to dry it thoroughly before reinstalling it electrically, but the chip can take the water mechanically? Please give me details...

no u need no water. just get like 5 coton swabs. put a dot of soap on a paper towel, then lightly dab one of the swabs on the tip of the soap dot. proceed to wipe the cpu with the swab now, just a little at a time. when u are done, take a clean/dry swab and wip off the soap, its that simple!

I'm definatly a fan of using the q-tip, it always has worked well for me.... oh yeah.... don't lick your fingers if you get AS on them.... FYI.... they taste really bad

Hahaha, you know this from experience it seems... I'll be careful to avoid this then.
