Can a mattress be steam cleaned? Can the same tactics to professionally clean a sofa be used on a mattress?

I need this mattress to be just like it was when it came out of the store, restored to like new condition.

just flip the mattress over and buy a large vase with roses.

and, borrow someone's dog, so you can blame it.

If you need a matress fresh from the store, then get one from the store.

If you are willing to settle, steam clean it, or regular wet vac without steam would be OK.

The problem is drying it afterwards. Dont make the mistake of thinking you can just leave it on the bed with the windows open for a couple hours. You would need proper draining facilities and that most likely means taking it outdoors and finding something to set it on or hang it from.

that is unpossible
you can only prevent stuff from getting it dirty, with covers and such
once it is "soiled" , you can't undone it

burn it and start over with a new one

Actually, it's almost impossible to get blood out of a mattress. The only way to get rid of the evidence really is to burn it...or so I've heard. :p

OK so what does steam cleaning entail exactly?

Best to hire a steam cleaning service, right?

How much is reasonable to pay for a mattress steam clean?

Peroxide always worked for me to get out those "tough" stains.
Just pour a cap full on the stain and then rub with a clean towel.
After it dries the stain should be gone. If not, try again.

steam cleaning is having 190º to 200ºF water with a cleaning detergent put under high pressure and forced into the fabric (carpet fibers, upholstery fabric, mattress, etc) and immediately removed with a vacuum.

I would say it is probably best to hire a cleaning service, though I'm a little biased... A portable unit (Rug Doctor) just isn't going to get the water up to the proper temperature required to properly clean and disinfect the mattress (or upholstery/carpet for that matter).

I would charge you $50 to hookup and clean the mattress and I'd probably spray on a deodorizer/disinfectant for you as well. I live in a small town. You'd proabably have to pay anywhere from $75 to $125 in a big city. Would probably be their minimum charge for coming to your house and cleaning something. Might want to see if you can get some carpet or upholstery cleaned as well. You may get a better deal since they are already there.

Would renting a steam cleaner be okay for couches? I've got one with especially stubborn cat hair and vacuuming and a lint roller isn't getting it all.
