How to choose a host

I am interested in a website for my small business and this is all new to me. It will be just for advertising, information, and client contact - I don't sell products.

What should I expect to pay for a hosting service. (Also, what is shared hosting?) How much should I pay for a site that may not get many hits. I don't want any banners or anything like that from the host service.

Is there any way to ensure that my site is found by Google without paying for it?

I can probably create my own website with Frontpage 2002, but what should I pay for a professional site?

Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure, because the prices seem to range from about $60 per year to hundreds per year. I don't anticipate much business from it, so I don't want to spend more than maybe $15-20 per month at first. And if this amount provides a service that is not worth anything, I'll probably wait until I have more business and think about this again.

Thanks for the link, I'll definitely check it out.

Honestly, for a start up site $5-10 or so is more than enough to cover a small hosting account.

Google does not charge money, and you do not need any services to formally submit your site to google. Text

A good professional site will range from $100-500 or so. You can purchase a website from a site such as Template Monster and do the site cheaply, or higher a designer to get a unique site created.

e-rice.net for the win. If you're just starting out, their standard 1 plan should be good enough for your needs. only $10/year. Yes, $10 for the year. You can always upgrade to their higher plans if traffic picks up.
