Instead of open the case and take the memory out to look at the label, if any, to check what type: sdram (100,133), ddr (2100,2700, 3200,...) or ddr2 (too many speed rated for this new type)... is there a way to check?
Oyeve is 100% correct that cpu-z is probably the best tool for that given job---freebie programs that do that and more are everest 2.2 and pc wizard 2007 which will bench more items. Including giving temperature and voltages. That and memtest86 for testing for ram errors and you can know near anything about your PC without opening up the case.
You can download an old version that has most of the functionality enabled. It was also free crippleware, but works fine. PM me and I'll email it to you.
