how to check/scan computer for keylogger, unwanted exe, etc?

found some unwanted exe files running when looking at task manager. then went to add/remove programs in control panel and found some programs that i never installed. now i'm worried something got onto my computer. how do i scan for anything malicious?

i'm running windows xp, and have norton antivirus running all the time.
 
Download Spyboy Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware. Update the definitions on both too. Should be able to find what's in the system.
 
google for anti-trojan 5.5 if you're really paranoid. its a trial version but has full functionality for 14 days.
 
thanks. spybot found bunch of programs and removed them for me. anti-trojan seems to only report open ports and questionable files, but doesn't actually fix the problems. norton never found anything

anything else i could use? also would these programs have found the stuff on valve computers?
