How to Check Mobo Processor Socket?

Is there a way to check the processor socket on a mobo with out damaging the CPU? Board is an Intel D865PERL.

Pulled the original processor and damaged it beyond repair. Bought a cheap Celeron and installed it. Upon boot I get four longish beeps. Checked Intel site for beep codes. As best I can tell from the info provided the mobo needs to be replaced.

Are there any further checks that can be performed to see if the mobo is hosed?

TIA.
