hey guys,
I've got a Kingston router hooked up to my Road Runner connection...two computers then are connected to the router (one homebrewed AMD system and one Thinkpad) I'm having connectivity problems w/ my desktop, be it internet browsing or say instant messager. It seems like the connection would not always be there, and service comes periodically sometimes. I'm having none of these problems on the laptop, so it's very frustrating for me. Both systems are running Win2k SP2 btw.
I've tried to troubleshoot this problem using many methods. I have replaced the Realtek 10/100 card with a Intel 10/100 NIC. I have also tried differnt ports on the back of the router, but they all seem to be producing the same results. Could the patch cable be the cause of it? I certainly hope not, but I'm pretty sure that's not it. Is there some setting in Win2k that I could play with so it will improve my internet connection? One more factor you guys might want to know is that my Duron is currently overclocked to 933 from 700, but the PCI bus should not be running out of spec because I've only changed the FSB from 100 to 133 so the bus divider should be okay...
I could provide more specific details if it come up, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks,
ping

Sure it can. Try a different one and see. First you might try pulling the tab on the end out a bit and reinserting it. Sometimes those loosen up a bit.

if you find out that the cable is not at fault, definitely try clocking your system back to spec; afaik, nics do not like being overclocked in the slightest.

okay guess it's not a cable problem...i didn't crank up my voltage all the way overclocking this chip, so i wonder whether it'll be more stable or not if I max out the voltage...
