How to check a seller with no feedback?

Is there a way to check on a seller who is recently registered, to see if they have a previous e*b*a*y registration? There is an item I'd like to buy, but the seller is recently registered, and has a zero rating. (I have never actually bid on an item before, I know it's hard to believe) One thing I'm concerned about is the seller is selling two of the same items (not exactly a common item either), and both of them have the same picture. The rest of his items are overpriced, too, which may explain why he has no feedback, as nobody is stupid enough to bid. But the item I've found is not very common, and I don't beleive he really even knows what it is, so it appears to be a good deal. Thanks in advance guys.

You can't. Maybe you could socially engineer it by emailing questions to the multiple ID's from different email accounts and see if it comes from the same person..

I figured as much. The seller is local (well, an hour's drive away), I may offer to do the transaction in person and with cash and see what he says. I figure that should flush him out if he isn't legit.

iwearnosox, not a bad idea, he's got three pages of stuff for sale (everything overpriced except the item I want), so I could inquire about several different items.

if he's local, definitely just offer to do it that way. saves hassle, risk, and he should be up for it since he wont have to pay fees. if he is reluctant, just stay the heck away.
