How to cheaply get the amount of bass in my car system for my computer?

I really can't stand playing mp3's or cd's in my house on my computer anymore, because I've been 100% spoiled by my car. I have a 1200 watt amp and 2 12" subs in a deeeeep enclosed box, in my firebird (hatchback, no trunk so the bass just bounces off the glass right to my ears), its incredible, I swear it gives me a hard-on listening to "Couterfeit" by Limp Bizkit, towards the end, the bass line is amazing.

then I go inside and try to play songs through my Klipsh Promedia's, and it can't even come close. What is it, like 150 watts pushing a single 6 or 8" sub in a little box trying to fill a whole bedroom, it can't compare. A friend of mine had 4 10"'s in a huge box wired to his PC with a dc converter and guitar amp or some crap, it was rigged up but it rumbled and pounded nicely.

anyway, will I ever be able to get the bowel-crushing brain-scrambling bass of my car on my pc without spending like $5000 on some home theatre subs and amp? or will I just have to run out to my car in the middle of the night in 35 degree weather when I want to get my bass fix? maybe wire my PC to my car and play quake 3 inside? :|

Heh, I know the feeling, I have an RF Power BD1000a1 (1200+ w RMS) and 2 15" HX2 subs, 145-150 db's daily driver (s-10 blazer). And my Altecs are a joke (comparatively). You best bet is a home audio powered subwoofer, like a CV or Infinity. (Cost effective, it won't be as loud however) If you can spare some serious cash, get one of those huge amps (that run on 110v) and I would recommend some car subwoofers.

The thing that makes car bass so loud is the small area that you're listening to it in. Also look around you in a car. You're surrounded by glass and metal. These two materials keep sound in REALLY well. If you built an anechoic chamber in your house you could have a decently soundproof room with nice reinforcement, but that costs about $100,000 to build 😉

You do have a couple of options. You will spend about $2000-2500 getting GOOD bass on your PC but it can be done. First you'll need to audition subwoofers at your local high-end audio shop. Sunfire, B&W, Velodyne, and even Mirage all make some nice high-output powered subwoofers. You will more than likely spend about $1000 on a GOOD sub. The next thing is to purchase a receiver, don't be cheap, you'll spend another $500 here. Yamaha V800 and Denon AVR-3301 are two I can recommend in/around this price that are great. You'll also need to fill out your mids and highs, purchase yourself a nice paid of NHT Supertwo's for about $500, a Supercenter for $200 and a pair of superone's for the rear if you want surround sound, for another $200-300.

You will not be disappointed but again, you will be spending a fair amount of cash.

that's one of my favourite cruising tunes to 😉 Pete has $10k worth of stereo equipment in his card. You are right, that bassline is good stuff 🙂

Yeah your only chance is home theatre or custom made...hehehe 😉 Did you see the 12 dancing shivas project? Search for it 😉

Well how I have done my setup is have 6 HiFi speakers rigger up around me with a good amplifier, and then have a sub in the middle or to a side, my one is in the middle on my shelve for the computer desk. The front are bi-wired to 4 speakers. Two Sony HiFi speakers, and on top of them Son'y surround HiFi speakers which are much smaller. And for my rear speakers I have Mission M71s, and the Sub is another Mission. And the amp is a Pioneer.

Hope this helped!

Albert.

Go to Amazon.com and get one of the Audiosource subs. These are cheap but kick crazy ass. The powered 10" is like $169. And the 12" is $20 bucks more. The big 15" is I think is in the low $200's. The reviews of these are very good. And they keep up with velodynes, etc.

You can add these to your promedias to fill in the bass. But you will soon find out the klipsh's might be drowned out. But it should fill out the low end nicely. If you want to kick it up a notch but spend a little less, I recommend the Paradigm bookshelf speakers. I have the shielded Paradigm Titans, and these are great. These set me back around $225. I also use these to record and mix music on. They are very flat and accurate.

This set up will give you as good a sound as speakers costing thousands more. I've listened to them all, but these sound great and cost very little. The absolute best bang for the buck.

I'm glad someone brought up Shivas... Shivas and Tempests (15" version) from Adire Audio Kick serious ass, they don't look like nothing, but looks are very decieving ! Especially in audio...
