How to change writing speed with Nero??

I am running Nero 6. When I click smart start and go to copy disc, I only get two speeds to burn the disc at; max speed or 48x. I am getting burn failures. In the past with nero 5 I would lower the burn speed to like 24x but I cannot figure out to reduce the burn speed with this newer version. Anyone know how to do this?
