How to change the polling rate for mice in windows 8?

Hi,

I'm trying to increase the polling rate for my Microsoft Explorer 3.0 & Windows Mouse Optical 1.1A mice under Windows 8 but so far the methods that worked under Windows 7 do not seem to work for Windows 8. Under Windows 7 I used the procedure & tools listed in this guide:

I'm still stuck with a 125 Hz polling rate & want to increase it to 500 Hz.

Anyone here with a solution?
