how to change the domain name in my web space?

Please excuse me for being a rookie. I m trying to build website in my cox webspace server. It's free but i would like to change the domain name or website address link to make it easier to remember the link. The problem is that I couldn't figure how to do that.

For exmaple: my link is http://www.members.cox.net/username/photo. I don't want this link so I would like to change it to simple link to look up and for some security reasons. I don't want them know my email address from that link address that would create spams.

Any chance that I could change the link it in the same server?

cox internet wont allow you to have your own custom url. you'll have to buy a domain name then forward it to http://www.members.cox.net/username/photo.

thanks for replying. Is it easy to forward it to that link after I purcahse domain name?


edit: one more where's the cheap to buy domain name that would forward? Namecheap?

www.godaddy.com they can forward ip address but i'm not 100% sure if they can forward urls. maybe someone on here knows.
