how to change DUN icon?

I have a theme pack, it changed the networking icon that goes in the systray, the little monitors look almost the same whether on or off, so I'm having a hard time telling if data being transmitted/received or not.

I got an icon editor, I edited the 4 icons (on/on, on/off, off/on, off/off) so they much more clearly show "on or off". the problem is... where do I put them now so they get used?

they came from the C:\WINDOWS\BricoPacks\Vista Inspirat 2\ResFiles\38_netshell.dll folder, putting the altered icons back in there makes no change. so this must only be a source folder for the installation.

but that also tells me I probably will need to replace the icons in netshell.dll somewhere. I found that in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ and C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache, but now, how do I edit netshell.dll to swap out the icons?

can you do that with a dll editor? if so, where can I get a good freeware dll editor?

or is there a folder somewhere else that I simply drop in the edited icons?

never mind, I figured it out.

in C:\WINDOWS\BricoPacks\Vista Inspirat 2\ResHacker there's a handy little gadget called reshacker. use it to open C:\WINDOWS\system32\netshell.dll, click on Action, Replace Icon... replace icon# 190, 191, 192, 193 using the edited .ico files sitting on the desktop.

...and that's how to change your DUN icon.
