How to change default action

Does anyone know how to change the action performed when a device is connected?
What happened to me is this: I connected my new usb scanner, pressed the scan button on the scanner and when the dialog popped up prompting me which program to launch I accidently selected the wrong one and clicked the "Always use this program for this action".
Now, every time I press the scan button the hp copy program starts. Not a killer but I'd like to know how to set it right so any help is appreciated.

If I understand you correctly you've assigned a particular file type, such as .jpg, with a particular program.

The easiest way to fix this is to open Explorer and navigate to an item of that particular file-type. Hold down shift and right click. Then choose Open With from the menu. Now assign the association as you desire.

is this winXP? I think its the same kidn of thing as when you insert a blank CD and it pops up with the option to create a "writable folder" or something like that
