How to care for leather jacket?

Anything I should know? Or just stuff like don't go play in mud pits or wear it on a motorcycle (it's not that kind of leather jacket)?

It ok to just use some general Kiwi boot protector on it or should I use something else to protect it?

It always amazes me what people think is suitable protection for wearing on a motorcycle. Go pick up a leather motorcycle jacket, they are really heavy and thick and for good reason. Most fashion leather jackets are simply useless when it comes to motorcycle safety but people seem to think that because it is leather that it can be used for that purpose.

To answer your question, some jackets are treated already so you may not have to do anything at all. Was there any tag with care instructions on the jacket when you bought it?

http://leatherhoney.com/ Restored a 20+ year old leather bag using this, worked wonders.

Use a new shoe shine brush to apply (a little goes a very long way), let it soak in overnight, use a rag to wipe off the residue (can feel a bit sticky if it doesn't soak in all the way, will pass as it sinks in). After a couple of days, treat with a water proofing spray made for leather jackets.

There are water based balms out there that will soak in fast and not feel sticky for the first week after treatment, but you have to treat more often.

I know, I went off topic and then came back to the topic at hand. I believe that's allowed.

Thanks for clarifying the obvious though.

Meh, my mind reading skills are only marginal over the internet so I'll accept your excuse.

Oh and by the way, totally offtopic from OP but yes it is idiotic what some people wear as motorcycle gear. The most obnoxious to me are the biker club jackets the HD riders get at motorcycle shows. No kidding, backpack material is more durable.

It's a fucking leather jacket. If you are a bitch, you should stick to a hoodie.

Just don't get it wet in the rain much.

Dry clean it every couple of years or so (though it's super expensive).

Hang it up in your closet. That's where mine stays. My lifestyle just doesn't work with a leather jacket. It's nice and all but I wear it on the rarest of occasions.

Mine is a soft leather that went from shiny smooth to a dusty rough texture in many places. Is it possible to restore?

That's a good product. So is this:

Maybe. IMO, Leatherique would probably do the job. Contact them and send them pics of the leather. If it's not too badly damaged, it will PROBABLY make the leather soft and supple again.

I treat my leather jacket at least once per year with a good quality leather conditioner.

Thanks. It still feels very soft, it just a visibly rough surface. Dirt-like. As if it's missing some shiny layer that goes over it.
