We still don't have a dedicated audio forum here so I'll post this question here.

Yesterday I imported an old VHS tape to my PC and made it into an MPEG2 movie. (For those interested it is U2 Live "Under A Blood Red Sky" from way back in '84. My first VHS tape purchase. :D) I want to capture the audio and make it an MP3 file so that I can listen to it on my MP3 player (for those interested - IPOD NANO :p).

Is there any freeware that can do this? My current sound device is the Realtek ALC codec on my MSI K8N NEO2 motherboard. If you know of a decent retail software package that can do this I'm all ears.

Thanks!

I use TMPGEnc to load the video, then "output as wav file". Then I use the audio editor that comes with nero to load the wav, edit it and change volume if necessary, then save as a mp3.
