Is there an easy way to calculate how much body fat you have?
I'm about 5'11, 155 lbs, so i don't think I have TOO much body fat... I have chubby cheeks though (arg)...

Google is your friend. :)

Searched the web for "measuring body fat".
Results 1 - 10 of about 2,070. Search took 0.14 seconds

If you look down and can't see your wiener...........you may be fat. ;)

-Az

PS - This doesn't apply for girls as they have a natural "line of sight barrier"

LOL :D

Also, if this statement applies to you, you might be fat:
He/she's got more Chins than a Chinese phone book.

I went to google and did a search on "measuring body fat" and got a lot of different results. Some said I had 20% and NO WAY is that right. Some said it was about 8% which is nearer to what it is.

I'm 5"10 and a TRUE weight of 165lbs (75kg), and I am of athletic build and muscley and no way I have a fat percentage of 20%!!!

I'd say go to a gym and get them to give you a test. At my local gym its about £15 and I am going to arrange one soon when I have some free time. I expect it to be about 8% or less.......

you get calipered, or get ultrasound readings, or get tanked (as in displacement)

You cant get a measurement from the internet any more than it will do your laundry

I'm 6' 1", female, and weigh 135 Lbs. One site I tried out estimated my body fat was 16.5% and lean body mass 113 lbs. The the other sites I tried used the body mass index, which resulted in a BMI of 17.7. I'm content! :D

Huh? Koing, are you trying to tell us that you're anorexic?

Unless you're anorexic, there's no way a guy of 165 Lbs and 5' 10" would have just 8% body fat. That's abnormal. I believe the 20% is more accurate of you. Or perhaps you entered the wrong height since you seemed to denote foot with " which technically means inch.

Perhaps reading the materials in the following link will help you better understand body fat: Statistics and Facts abour overweightness. ;) :)

The latest toy/tool actually is more convenient than that. You take off your shoes and socks and stand on some stainless plates on a scale type device. It measures the resistance to calculate your body fat %. Pretty accurate too, from what I am told by the specialist using it.

I was participating in a job fair, at our hospital, put on for some upcoming HS graduates looking for carreer options.

JMaster your ideal body weight is about 165 pounds.

IBW (male) = 50kg + [2.3 x (inches over 60)]

kg x 2.2 = lbs

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have a body, and you have body fat, your ratio is

one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

There is no reliable way to measure body fat using height and weight. Even BMI scale is 'calibrated' for a person of average build, so a BMI table will give misleading results for persons who are more muscular than average. These are simply INDICATORS which should be considered along with other factors.

Agreed.

I was simply trying to make him feel better since he falls "under" that value. He isn't "fat" and shouldn't fret over it. We use it to quickly calculate an approximate value for renal dosing and adjustments for certain antibiotics.

Hell, according to that calculation I am damn near obese and I am hardly overweight. Heh...

Seriously I am not anorexic. I was never thin or big. I was about average build but with very little fat to start with. Now that I've trained for 34 months. The past 6 is with a professional coach as I've taken up Weight Lifting as a serious hobby I'm much bigger and also cut down on fat as well. I am very strict with my diet also. I dont' snack and don't eat chocolate/sweets/bad foods. I snack on apples. I eat a minium of 5 apples and other fruits and vegetables during my day. I also don't drink any fizzy drinks. Only water and still fruit drinks for me, but mainly its water.

I suppose I'd eat more chocolate IF I did ACTUALLY like the taste. I'd always choose and apple over a chocolate bar, they are too sweet and rich for me. I've always prefered fruit to apples:) Just a bonus that it contains less fat.

I'm quite ripped with all of my training as well......

I'll find out the body fat percentage when I get the test done at the gym sometime soon. But I think 8-11% is resonable figure. 20% is far too high for what I look, or its got to be somewhere else!!! Don't think I'd have a 6 pack with 20% body fat......
