how to bypass surfcontrol internet proxy?

How can I get around a surfcontrol program that was installed by the IT people at work?

They use this program called <a class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.surfcontrol.com" target=blank>SurfControl

</A>Does anyone have any ideas on how to get around it??

Its pretty annoying because I can't get into a lot of sites that I like to use. I've even tried to use anonymizer, but thats on their blacklist too, so I can't use it.

The puters here at work all are configured to work via a proxy server on IE 5.0 with Win98 machines.

well technically I don't work for them since I'm a contractor, so I'm not really worried about getting fired.
🙂

Then worry about committing crimes. Dont try and get around these measures, it should get you fired and worse. I know I would press charges for these childish antics. Download pr0n on your own time. You may also want to take out the ip address of the proxy there. Not a good idea to just leave that lying around.

Well I find it funny that you are presuming that I spend all my time downloading p0rn.

The real reason is that the damn surfcontrol settings are too limiting. I can't even logon to ebay or Yahoo auctions because of the stupid settings. I presume that the surfcontrol proxy works by scanning the key words of each webpage and when it hits something potentially 'offensive' it prohibits access. I can't even get into public sites like the New York Times because it sets off the surfwatch proxy. Its pretty annoying and makes the computer useless, in my opinion.

I find it funny that you presume your employer should allow access to ebay or Yahoo auctions, or any other site not business-related. Bandwidth costs money, and employees wasting all day buying trinkets costs even more money.

Contractor or not, anyone trying to bypass network security would promptly be shown the door.

All the debates aside..I'm sure if SurfControl or any other such proxy had methods of being circumvented, they would have been fixed and plugged up..so there essentially should be no way "around" it..if there is, then it's a really bad program..so what you might want to do is talk to the IT people and request that certain worthwhile sites not be blocked..Regards

Then maybe you should be working instead of playing on ebay or Yahoo.
