How to burn .avi files to VCD (divx avi files)?

ok, I'm not too sure if you can play divx avi files on home DVD players, is it possible? Using Nero btw.

If not, how can it be played on a DVD player?

You can't play DivX files on a set top DVD player but some can play VCDs and SVCDs.

What's in that link? XMpeg 4.5. What's that? Is there a way of breaking up a file and converting it into VCD format onto numerous VCD's?

the link that shooters gave you is to one of the top sites for video conversion guides/tools. if you look around on that site you will find many "how to" guides for converting to and between various formats such as mpeg, vcd, svcd, divx, etc... also, all the tools you will need are available for download and explained.

This site is great. I didn't know crap about vcd's before until I found this site. Now I regularly download divx avi's from kazaa and watch them on my sony dvd player. I just finished watching blade2 on my dvd player 🙂

Just want to point out..

Nero will burn .avi to VCD directly (encode and burn).
