I'm caught up on my dl's with Naruto, is there anyway I can burn the files to a DVD and play on my dvd player? I"m not sure how to check what type of files they are ... any help would greatly appreciated!

most likely they are .avi files, but they may be .mpg (.mpeg).

Some Home dvd players can play raw mpeg files, most cannot.
Most can play VCD's, and some can play SVCD's.

If the files are .avi, covert them to .mpeg and burn them as a vcd. You will lose quality though.

Is there a program out there that tells me exactly the format of the file? Aside from right click > properties ... I'm trying to see if there are any instructions on dvdrhelp.com

Is vcd the best format that I can keep? I've played the files on my TV, through my laptop and external HD, and the quality is sweet, anyway I can burn and keep the same quality?

SVCD will look better than VCD, but make sure your dvd player supports SVCD before you burn your whole collection.

to check what type of file go to windows explorer, folder options, click "view" tab, uncheck the "hide extensions for known file types" box. that will allow you to see the file type of every file on your HDD's.

yup, my dvd plays anything I throw at it including SVCDs, is SVCD the best I can get from an AVI file? I thought we can convert an AVI to something and burn to a dvd and keep it's original quality?

For CDR's best you get will be SVCD.

burn to a dvd? maybe what, .mpeg4? I haven't moved on to DVD+-R's yet.

Who's subs do you have for Naruto? I've found that the people who use white text (Anbu-AONE, Darkanime, and early Bakasan's) are hard to read on a television. The Toriyama ones are best for watching on a TV, but they only have up to episode 48. Bakasan released the last couple episodes with yellow text though. I hope he continues using that style.

If he has a DVD burner he can make DVDs (obviously) out of his avi's and mpegs.

If not then SVCDs are the next best choice. I use TMPGenc to convert files to mpeg2 and 44000 audio to make SVCDs and 48000 audio for DVDs. I then burn with TMPG Author.

Nero Vision ..

Click on new DVD .. drag your AVIs and encode it while you sleep. wake up and burn it as a dvd video (nero vision will create teh VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders)
Nero VIsion also lets you create menus and all that stuff.

it's very easy.

I used it to make a test DVD with some fan sub Japanese Dramas.

Uhh just wondering wouldn't you be able to fit only liek 3-4 episodes per dvd?

Naruto is up to 67... I can't imagine using up that many DVD's just for that. I'm just burning them as data for now.

Correct me if I'm wrong here.

P.S. I like Anbu-AONE fansubs since the translations seem better. (I'm not Japanese, but they make more sense grammar wise and just general flow wise.)

Yeah. I burned the first 25 TW subs on DVD, but they're still in AVI format. I usually hook my laptop if we want to watch Naruto on TV.

I'm actually collecting both the TW and Anubu-AONE version, the latter to keep up with the story and former to keep. I mean aside from Naruto, I have a crap load of anime I need to offload, it's just taking sooooooo much space on my HD.

I'll go with sid's idea, sounds painless, but only for those series that are fairly short. Guess, I gotta burn them as data and watch on my laptop. ugh - POT, HNG, Kenshin are so huge =)

Anyone here have hooksup with animeone on irc? I know ciber used to be not anymore ... I'm just using animesuki.com right now ... speeds are not bad but I rather have irc =)

Yeah. I use TW for archiving and I keep up using whoever gets it out first. Darkanime is actually very good now. Anbu is slow and sometimes they seem to dumb down things a lot. Bakasan is ok.
