How to build common sense?

Are there any techniques to building common sense? I don't have much, and as I am getting older, I really need it. Maybe some sort of mental exercises?

lol @ topic

Common sense usually means making rational and logical decisions based on fact and not emotion. So do that and you should be ok.

Common sense is not something your "learn" but is rather something that you apply after taking into consideration all things you have learned.

dang. stole my post.

But that's it, pretty much.

Common sense = that thing (lawn mower) is spinning wildly and looks sharp, could hurt somebody. don't wanna put my hand in there.
not common sense = no problem putting my hand in there.

hand gets mangled, some common sense is learned.

No one is born with common sense. You gain common sense by getting a larger perspective on your life, customs and, other people.

Everyone learns differently. Taking responsibility for yourself is a good start. Travel, whether within your own country or to another, is an excellent way to learn that what is important, safe, 'natural' to you is NOT what works in other places.

Of course, bad consequences tend to stick with some folks easier than others.

If someone does that, then they went from 0% total common sense to about .5% total common sense.

You either have it, or you don't.

You CAN learn to make better decisions, based on learning and experience, but common sense/good judgement doesn't seem to be something you can "build" or learn in & of itself.
