How to build a bass-amp/waveguilde?

My physics teacher made one of these - it's a series of internal chambers, with a fairly small speaker at one end - this thing would generate bass that was capable of shaking the desks in the room. It doesn't use electronics, just the internal resonance to pump out some incredible bass.
If you know what I'm talking about, where can I get instructions on building one? Otherwise, I'll try to clarify a bit.

Most definitely. This thing my physics teacher had was a cube, about 2 feet on a side, maybe 3. Unbelievable power. Anyone with links for help?
