How to break up with a GF of 3 years?

Ok, been with her for 3 years now but it's not gonna work out for the long run. I don;t know if she has any long term plans for "us", but I'm at a stage of my life in which I wanna think about settling down, marriage, kids, etc. & I just can't picture her as my wife.

How do I tell her that I want to break up with the least amount of emotional stress?

tell her you would like to have an exit interview with her. when she asks why, tell her that you will be terminating the relationship, and the exit interview will be an opportunity for both you and her to ask questions about the situation to learn from next time.

yes, but won't that put a dent in her self-esteem? what if she does want to have long-term plans with me.

telling her that she isn't it would be the easy way out, but I really wanna protect her feelings - sugar coat it as much as possible

How about you just talk to her. Unless she wants to dump you as well, there's not going to be a peachy way to do this

Your just breaking up with her because she does not seem like the ideal wife. Do you get along with her? You have to remember this is not the 1950s so working career women is normal.
