Ok. A co-worker of mine brings two Dr. Peppers to work every day, drops them in the fridge, and by the time he comes back for the first one, (10am or so) one of them is gone. It's been happening for so long that he's getting ready to just blame it on someone so he can kill them. But we don't know who it is... The break room the fridge is in, is where all the big-wig exec's and their secretaries go for their coffee, water, food etc, and we really want to catch them, or just make them suffer so they never do it again. Any ideas anyone>? Oh yeah he always brings a 16 oz. plastic bottle. BTW video cameras are out of the question. All ideas for this retarded project are appreciated!

There's a chemical you can put on the outside that will cause the culprit's skin to turn black (no harm done, just stained)...

Silver nitrate sounds right, but I could be totally wrong. Monel would know.

That's what I would do.

Silver nitrate MSDS listing:

Poisonous. Causes burns. Long-term exposure can cause permanent blue-grey staining of eyes, mouth, throat and skin, (argyria) and may cause eye damage. Short contact can lead to deposition of black silver stains on the skin. Very destructive of mucous membranes. Skin and eye irritant. Experimental equivocal tumorigenic agent.

Carefull with that ;)

you are correct sir... silver nitrate it is.... though the culprit's skin won't turn black till at least 12 hours later... he/she can scrub and scrub all they want and it won't come off easily.... we played with some in chemistry (ok.. not play it was for an experiment, but my lab partner and i played :D) and the next day at school we looked like lepers with big black bloches on our hands and arms :D

Use a hot knife to cut a slit in the bottom of the bottle, that way the seal at the cap will still be intact. Put a roach in the bottle. Fill it back up. Re-seal it will the gel cyanoacrylate (super glue). Do both bottles. Make sure it is done VERY VERY neatly and they are both filled to the same level as each other and as a normal bottle.

You could put laxatives in the can. Then, just go looking for the guy who's crapping a lot

There's your thief ;)

bust open a pen and put ink all over the plastic (it should be hard to see since the soda is dark) and hopefully they'll get a big ink smear when they steal it and you should notice it later in the day.

Cut a slit in the bottom as suggested before, but fill them up with a nice, long, refreshing pee..... ahhhhhhhh....... like in Dumb and Dumber.....

Or see if Diet Dr. Pepper really does taste like regular Dr. Pepper..... fill up with the same..... :D

Drill out the bottom, drain the soda, fill with plastic explosives, and a blasting cap triggered by a piece of string under the can attached to the fridge... when the can is lift out of fridge shelf...BOOM!!!!!

Then you'll know who steals the Dr. Pepper, it'll be the guy with the head imploded...;)

lol... I'm thinking refilling it with something that just looks like dr pepper (10-40 oil, pancake syrup) or adding some laxative might be choice ideas for me... oh yes and a roach too. Why not? Thx for the ideas... Keep em' coming. You just cant mess with a guy and his dr pepper addiction, so we're gonna make sure the end result is great, even if the culprit never comes out and reveals themselves, our silent satisfaction will be worth it...

Why not just put exlax in?

Be very cautious using any chemical. You don't want to kill anyone. As pointed out silver nitrate could blind the person if they rub their eyes during the day, phenolphthalein if given to high of a dose could put someone in the emergency room. Poising is IMO very very dangerous. You can buy methyl blue and put in the DP, problem is it would turn the DP blue as well as the guys urine.

I would paint in a very thin layer of something that sticks or is slimey and hopefully smells horrible. Perferably something that doesn't wash off very well. Vasoline would work as a slimey non toxic layer.

Look, you can't blow them up or even poison them.
Anyway, they would notice the taste.
They won't notice the roach till they are finished with the drink.

why don't you just break the seals and turn them upside down b4 they go in the fridge...then it looks like someone's already tapped them. Else, visine.

It doesn't take *that* much laxative to make a difference...

You said video cameras are out of the question, but how close is the break area to the closest person's desk? Is anybody close enough to hear a buzzer going off?

My idea is to get one of those battery operated Radio Shack buzzers (the loud ones) and put together a rig that turns on the siren using some kind of pressure switch, even if it's two wires being held in contact under the bottle. Hopefully, the rig can be made so the buzzer stays on even if the switch has been closed again. Oh yeah, hide the rig in a paper bag or something close to the bottle. Mr./Mrs. Thief might get a little apprehensive when their daily prize sprouts wires.

I'm curious now how this can be done.... I'm off to search. :)

set up a webcam somewhere where it's hidden... some have motion sensing abilities, give it a shot to catch the culprit ;)

Just leave a note on the bottle that says he's pissed off that someone keeps stealing his drink.
