how to block website without restarting computer?
website can be blocked through hosts file entry but user need to restart their computer so is there any other way to block site without restarting computer?
i have kaspersky is 2013 , it can block site without restarting computer but it show dialogue box of kaspersky that firewall blocked the site in browser. is their any possibility to block website without other user to find out that particular site is blocked in system (ie. error code like site not found)

I could be wrong, but when editing the hosts file, you only need to close and re-open your browser for it to take effect. An open browser will use whatever hosts entries were there when it was first opened.

Why is having to restart a problem? I'm guessing you don't want the notification because you're trying to block a site without the other person knowing...

Unless your browser is doing something really stupid, it should take effect immediately. The browser shouldn't be doing any DNS caching itself and the host should check the hosts file at every query. If you want to be sure it's not caching an old hosts file entry just restart the DNS Client service, there's no reason to reboot the whole machine.

i read on some site that restart. i took restart for system restart. so is there any good program to edit hosts file bcoz its quite troublesome to edit hosts file everytime to block & unblock the site

Notepad. But you might want to block it at your network gateway if you're familiar with how to log into it and adjust settings.

there are firefox extensions that allow you to block websites.
